Soru Izakaya is a Japanese restaurant along Maginhawa street that offers the best Japanese maki. I have read so many good reviews regarding this Japanese restaurant and had high expectations for it. Since the couturier for my engagement dress is located in Maginhawa, I decided to plan a one-day day-time food trip in Maginhawa right after my fitting.
When dining at a Japanese restaurant, ordering a sashimi is the number one must for me as I get to see if the fish they use are fresh or not. I usually order either tuna sashimi or salmon sashimi. But because we already ordered a couple of salmon dishes, I decided to go for tuna sashimi this time around. The tuna sashimi was great! I love how soft it is with every bite.
This torched salmon belly is a must order! The salmon meat really melts into your mouth. It was heavenly! I actually wanted to order more but I was reminded by my fiance that we ordered quite a lot and two of us might not be able to eat it all. Oh well, more reason for me to visit Maginhawa and try out the other restaurants nearby. 😉
I ordered Oh Umi Maki after doing my research beforehand. The taste for me was so-so. I’m not a fan of sweets and this was a bit sweet for me. I think it was coated with teriyaki or a sauce of a similar kind. If you love teriyaki, then don’t forget to order this maki.
Hiroshima Maki is a different kind of maki wrapped with fried gyoza wrapper, but it was too spicy for me. Their spicy mayo really is spicy. Haha. I was shocked after my first bite. It was quite unique though. One-of-a-kind maki that you don’t normally find in Japanese restaurants.
Last but not the least, my favorite of all, Dragon Kuro Maki! Oh, I love this one! This is definitely on par with the Shake Belly Aburi. The plate was immediately empty after a few minutes. We both gobbled this down our throat and we just couldn’t stop. If you visited Soru Izakaya and haven’t tried this, then you definitely missed the most important factor!
⭐ Overall, the food and experience were thankfully more than what I have expected. Not only are the meals served decoratively (as shown above and below), the taste is incomparable as well! Soru Izakaya surely serves the best maki I’ve ever tasted here in the Philippines. 👍
