No relationship is all sunshine, but two people can share one umbrella and survive the storm together. Heck, not even the typhoon can stop us from celebrating our 26th monthsary.
July 27th of 2017 is one of the special days for my fiancé and I as it marks our 26th month of being partners-in-crime. Every 27th of the month, we celebrate by having dinner at a restaurant of our choice that we’ve both never tried. If our wallet gives us the go signal, we sometimes go on a out out town, or better, an out of country trip. Since it’s a little tight for the both of us as we are trying to save some cash for our engagement and wedding, we decided to try out an Italian restaurant in Bonifacio Global City by a Michelin Star Chef David Oldani for a romantic dinner. 💕
The place was really fancy, with the modern interior and the huge door at the store front. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to take a photo of it as it was raining cats and dogs due to the typhoon that day. At first, I thought it was a fine dining restaurant with their meal course menu and interior design; however, according to Zomato, it’s actually just a casual dining restaurant. 😱
For their menu, you get to choose between 3-course, 4-course or 5-course tasting meal. And you can have upgrades as well to replace the set meals. My fiancé and I decided to take the 4-course meal for Php 1200 each, which we thought was already the most expensive one until we noticed that there is still a next page. 😐 Since we took the time and effort to make reservations and all, plus we braved the storm as well, we were planning to get the course with the most meal to fulfill our satisfaction. Oh well, I guess we can save that for next time, if ever we do go back again for some other reasons. 😑
So here’s what we had:
We both didn’t like this appetizer. It was good at first bite as it was crispy and sweet at the same time, but the inside of the onion was too soft mushy that it tasted really horrible with the cream. It was too caramelized for me too, but that one is understandable because I personally am not a fan of sweets.
Octopus dishes are one of my favorites and this definitely caught my eye as I was scanning the menu. For an additional Php120, I can say that this is a must order item on their menu. I love the octopus meat, it wasn’t too soft or too firm, it was just perfect.
Primo (First Entrée)
Pastas are one of my comfort food, and most pastas are well-cooked to my liking; however, this didn’t impress me that much. I actually preferred the pasta being served at The Old Spaghetti House instead. I found this weird since we are dining at an Italian restaurant. Aren’t Italian pasta supposed to be good? 🤔
In short, this is a risotto. At a first look at their menu, my fiancé’s first thought was, “Why wasn’t there any risotto in the menu?” It was when I asked the waiter that I found out that Milanese D’o is actually a risotto! 😅 Since my fiancé wanted to try out their risotto, I upgraded my meal for an additional Php 220. If I think about it now, I really shouldn’t have ordered this dish. I immediately didn’t like the taste of this risotto with first bite. It was too watery as if the risotto was swimming in a sauce. This risotto is actually a lot more like a congee. I was really disappointed. 😕
Secondo (Second Entrée)
We both are a fan of Hell Kitchen and we hear the fish Seabass being mentioned in the show. My fiancé was ecstatic to find Seabass in the menu, which is why he decided to upgrade his meal for an additional Php 380. Though the serving was really small, he was quite satisfied with how the fish was cooked. I took a small bite from his tiny fish dish and I do agree with him. We both actually wanted seconds for this dish! 👍
I didn’t regret ordering Iberico Pork Ribs. The pork rib meat was really tender as if it melts inside your mouth. The one thing I didn’t particularly like is the sauce as I think it was too strong for the pork ribs. A little dip would be okay for an additional taste.
Fiancé and I both had Dark Chocolate Mousse cake for our dessert. For those who know me well, they would know that I don’t really eat cake much as I get sore throat whenever I eat too much sweets. But since this was a dark chocolate cake, I was hoping it wouldn’t be that sweet and would be a little bitter instead. To my dismay, it was too sweet. I didn’t taste any bitterness on the cake as the sweet taste of the cake was overwhelming. I felt like this wasn’t really made with dark chocolate. I had sore throat afterwards. 😢
Service-wise, I would give them a thumbs up on the service as the chefs would come to the table to introduce our dish upon reserving our meals. 😊 It was nice that they have thought of the fact that not all customers are familiar with such fancy meals. I wouldn’t give them a perfect score on the service though, as they left the empty bread plate on the able even after each meals were served, and even though they kept on changing the table utensils on the table. I found it weird that they didn’t even notice the empty bread plate that was obstructing our meal experience. 😓
As for the food, we were greatly disappointed with the quality of the food. Though the price is a lot more affordable compared to other meal courses; however, we didn’t feel like it was worth it at all. There are a lot more fancier restaurants with the same price but with a better food quality. We went home feeling dismayed. 😔
